Our society is on the best way to a so called knowledge society. Knowledge is going to be the structure of this society. The people, who live in it, have to assimilate and digest information. Only this can guarantee a professional and social advancement or avoid a decent. Furthermore the development of information and communication technology is being pushed. Especially the internet sector is marked by permanent innovation. The net has turned to an every day medium and there is enough space for commercial trade but also for information storage and distribution as well as the latest news. The net has changed the people’s (especially the students’) lives completely and their access to essential information. Nearly all information available in books, newspapers, magazines, TV, radio etc. is now available on the internet. To assimilate and digest information means to produce knowledge. This process is characterized by the complete dependence to humans. According to the fast penetration of the internet the human’s knowledge construction is liable to specific modification. The penetration of the net leads to a huge amount of information and makes it not easier to find the right answers. To cope with this problem, search engines are used. They help to find the relevant information, in very short time. Due to this search engines are very popular among students. Because of this fact, search engines are able to contribute to the student’s knowledge production. http://phaidra.fhstp.ac.at/o:1010 application/pdf 508390 bytes Wissen im Internet Text
