The Internet uses the Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) to transfer data. This protocol was designed and developed in the 70ies and is simply out of date today. In the near future IPv4 addresses will run out and it will not be possible to allocate addresses to devices to communicate with each other. The Inter-net Protocol version 6 (IPv6) was designed to avoid this. This protocol provides a gigantic address space and provides numerous improvements compared to IPv4. This thesis will discuss why a company should change to the new Internet Protocol, which advantages and problems should be expected and which possibilites are provided by IPv6. IPv4 - and IPv6 - topics as the Qualities of Service-skills of IPv6 are discussed on the basis of a DiffServ scenario and the migration from IPv4 to IPv6 is described. Within the scope of this thesis is the description of an implementation of an IPv6 network which I have connected to an international IPv6 network for the FH. Sooner or later the internet will migrate to IPv6 because more and more devices are in need of IP addresses to be connected. In the final chapter is summarized, why a company should im-plement IPv6 and what should taken into account when implementing the network. http://phaidra.fhstp.ac.at/o:1049 application/pdf 1518746 bytes Text Internet Protokoll Version 6
