The potential of music distribution through the internet changes the structure of the music industry, its dominant role in the distribution of music and the future shape of music as a product. New players change the patterns of the value chain in the music business. The by-passing of classic distribution channels affects the strategic direction of music companies (Disintermediation). The internet facilitates the distribution of music in its physical form, as well as the distribution of music in its virtual form (audio files). New services like communities and subscriptions enhance the service aspect of the musical product. The probable scenarios for the development of the music market will be shown in this work and they are based on the actual trends in online distribution.
