o:1217 Motion capture for computer graphics de St. Pölten, FH-StG für Telekommunikation und Medien, Dipl.-Arb., 2001 Although some of the current motion capture techniques have been used in different applications for medical and military purpose for quite a long time, it was first used for performance animation in the mid-1980s. Today it is roadly used for video game characters and its use is growing fast in the film and television market. It is still tested as a mass production tool, and in some projects even as an animator replacement, but eventually it will become a style tool at the end. The main purpose of this dissertation is to guide the animator through the whole motion capture process, beginning with the different technologies and ending with the ready, moving digital character. The dissertation contains the different motion capture systems, that are used for computer graphics, some of the most common motion data files, such as the Acclaim file format, different methods for setting up a character with rotational and translational motion data, methods for motion data manipulation, and the description of some of the now available software packages. Because motion capture for computer graphics is still a new market, there are only a few good software packages that help the animator to set up the character and to manipulate the motion data. Since most of the literature about setting up a character and motion data anipulation consists of mathematical terms and processes, which are hard to follow for one who is not well acquainted with it, I decided to write more about the available software. The information about the software described in the dissertation is from the internet and is the latest version I could find. Nevertheless I mentioned some sources where mathematical terms for both processes can be found. There already exists a book, Understanding Motion Capture for Computer Animation and Video Games from Alberto Menache, which serves as a guide for planning and carrying out projects with the help of performance animation, making sure that the reasons for using motion capture are correct and that the goals are attainable. Thereforee I did not mentioned this topic in my dissertation. Many of the cases and concepts outlined herein are based on the use of optical motion capture systems. However, the various different types of systems share the basic ideas regarding data collection. After data collection, the post-processing concerning data cleaning and editing is almost the same. 1552151 AC03428424 2017-02-14T11:04:58.839Z 44 no 46 Christina Bauer 2001 application/pdf 1887464 http://phaidra.fhstp.ac.at/o:1217 no yes 1 70
