Everyone who has ever seen an animation movie produced by Disney and asked themselves „How did they do this?“ will find the answer to their question in this thesis. This paper is not only written for readers with animation experience, but is also intelligible for the layman and everyone fascinated by Disney’s animation movies. The topic of this diploma thesis is: Walt Disney’s Animation Movies – Production Processes and Techniques. First of all the company and its historical development as far as animation movies are concerned will be described. In the following chapter you’ll find a short description of common terms and the development of animation in the course of time. These two chapters are to define the terms of the topic of the thesis on the one hand and give general and encyclopaedic access to the subject on the other hand. This thesis is restricted to a very small area of Disney productions and to a very small area of animation techniques. Thus in this thesis it will exclusively be talked about Disney’s full length feature animation movies – neither live-action movies nor the combination of both techniques belong to the topics discussed. The techniques used by Disney – cel animation, 2D- and 3D-computer-animation – exclude other animation techniques like puppet or time lapse animation. The aim of this thesis is a general overview. A vital understanding for the production of Disney’s animation movies will be developed and it will be shown, how single production steps hang together and influence one another. The concrete production process in a company like Disney is very complex. It depends on the movie planned and the single phases often interleave strongly. Nevertheless in general the succession, in which the production steps are stated in this thesis, accord with the process of the production. In the following chapters you’ll be introduced and informed thoroughly about the single production techniques. Cel, 2D- and 3D-computer-animation will be clearly separated from each other. While you’ll get to know the process you’ll be informed about the concrete technical basics. The centre of interest will be laid on 3D-computer-animation, as this technique is the youngest one and gives a totally new view. Furthermore working with a computer represents a generally different approach to the subject of animation. http://phaidra.fhstp.ac.at/o:1354 application/pdf 6417998 bytes Walt Disney's Animationsfilme, Produktionsabläufe und -techniken Text
