This degree dissertation gives the reader an overview on sound synthesis with the computer with the help of software synthesizers. The first chapter covers the development and the beginning of so-called “computer music”. Thereafter, a short comparison between analogue and digital synthesizers is made and different possible occurances of software synthesizers are defined. In chapter two, important sound analyis techniques are presented. The understanding of the structure of complex sounds provides a basis for sound synthesis. Chapter three deals with different methods of sound synthesis that appear in synthesizers. Chapter four gives a short overview of the MIDI-standard. This standard allows the interaction of various software and hardware components and has become a 'sine qua non' in music production. Chapter five reviews sound cards and desribes how they work. Chapter six presents the software REAKTOR version three by Native Instruments. This software synthesizer allows to produce complex sound generators based on modules. A few practical applications, like an FM synthesizer and a circuit for simulation of room acoustics are explained. 1552151 AC10883952 2017-02-20T12:03:15.919Z 44 no 46 Andreas Redl 2003 application/pdf 1336216 http://phaidra.fhstp.ac.at/o:1377 no yes 1 70
