This dissertation evaluates the present online experience of non profit organisations but also their future assessment concerning the internet. An attempt was made to create a minimum standard for improving online donation portals. Starting from literature based data, fourteen non profit organisations were evaluated to get structure parameters to form an up to date picture of the existing situation of the online donation sector. In a next step the websites of the NPO’s were analysed and subsequently each organisation was consulted to get their emphasis in prospect of the future. A survey of the year 2003 shows that 80 Percent of the interviewed donators had never donated online till now, 10 Percent had donated once or twice and only less than 10 Percent several times. To days internet generation will become the leading donating generation in 20 to 30 years time. It is likely that this generation will use the internet up to their old age. They are used to e-Payment systems therefore they are also familiar with online donation systems. This fact holds great potential for the future. At the present the organisations see the internet as an additional fundraising instrument. After analysing the collected data a minimum standard for improving the online presence was suggested. The advised criteria’s are project information, annual reports, order/download opportunity of information material, contact opportunities and information about online security. In addition a presence of payment possibilities like credit cards and payment form, a feedback option for the donator, e-mail information to the donator, sslencoding and the providing of newsletters and mailing lists are required as a minimum standard. Each online donation is many times the amount of an ordinary bank donation, therefore a customer relationships and customer retention would be an advantage for the organisations. Until now such relationship is practicable in nearly no organisation, because the organisations do not receive any data about their own target group. The lack of data might also be a result of the absent data control in donation forms. These chances of improvement have to be used to establish the online donation as a complete fundraising instrument. 1552151 AC11830442 2017-02-22T13:22:50.864Z 44 no 46 Irene Schinninger 2004 application/pdf 666554 http://phaidra.fhstp.ac.at/o:1443 no yes 1 70
