Due to ever-growing functionality and tools nowadays menus and toolbars are extremely overloaded and complex structured. The business division “automation and drive technology” from Siemens also recognized this problem of their software-applications. This thesis should demonstrate new approaches and menu concepts, which will be evaluated in a serial of usability-tests. In Terms of a development process following steps have been done: · Analyzing the operational area of the software product · Defining needful requirements · Developing new concepts and prototyping · Testing and evaluating them. Most important results of evaluation: The so far as standard used Pull down-menu cannot meet the requirements of a user-oriented interface any more. Existing users reached very good values in the new developed concept, reasoned by the compactness of it. The 2007 new onto the market coming menu concept from Microsoft Office proffers new users a very clear and well structured interaction with software programs.
