o:1670 Flash Vs. Macromedia Flash is a global and well-known internet format. It allows amongst other things, the smooth application of multimedia-based elements such as sound, animations, etc. on websites. HTML - in contrast - is mainly employed to generate static websites, inasmuch as it is used without any additional programming language (such as ASP, PHP, etc.). An overview of these two different formats will be provided within the scope of the thesis at hand. Subsequently the two items will be analyzed with reference to their usability, their barrier freedom and their updatability. In addition two experts from media companies in Salzburg were being interviewed on the subject of Flash and HTML. The following conclusion can be drawn: Both Flash and HTML have specific advantages. Regarding usability Flash offers the same possibilities as HTML. Expanding the capability of HTML with FLASH solutions poses an ideal option in order to take better advantage of both formats. In the field of barrier freedom FLASH does not offer as many solutions as HTML. The continuously occurring problems will be solved with Macromedia in the not too distant future. For the most part programmers still trust in HTML when it comes to content management systems, although the choice of flash web content management systems is becoming more and more significant.
