Sound Design is essential for the creation and production of a soundtrack. The soundtrack consists of various elements, which have to be conceived, produced, edited and arranged. In this process there are some common methods a Sound Designer can apply when designing a soundtrack. He/She is responsible for all esthetical and dramaturgic aspects of the soundtrack including dialogue, effects and music. This thesis consists of technical, esthetical and creative approaches to Film-Sound Design, the reception of the soundtrack and the correlation between image and sound. The first five chapters of this thesis cover the theoretical background important for Film Sound Design. The term Sound Design and the processes in Sound Pre- and Post-Production are described in the second chapter. The third chapter covers all elements of the soundtrack. The fourth chapter deals with psychoacoustic phenomena of the human ear. The process of designing itself and methods used in Sound Design are depicted in the fifth chapter. The correlation between image and sound is described in chapter six. The practical part in chapter seven is a case study in the form of an analysis of a part of the soundtrack of the film “The Matrix”. http://phaidra.fhstp.ac.at/o:1940 application/pdf 2182848 bytes Sound Design im Film Text
