The rail-freight-industry has to struggle with the fact that the competitors on the road can offer lower prices. One of the reasons is that the cost of production on the last mile, which is in many cases a feeder railway line, are very high. So in this thesis possibilities of reducing these production costs will be investigated to allow a more economical operation and what other cases of use for feeder railway lines are possible. It was determined that the main problems which the feeder railway line-companies have to deal with are the lack of expertise of the feeder railway line-operations manager, the complexity of the legal standards and the financing of infrastructure maintenance. To reduce the negative consequences of these problems and consequently to ensure a more economical operation, there are a variety of methods. But one important factor for the improvement is that appropriate lobbying will be done by the interest groups of feeder railway lines to reach the necessary conditions for feeder railway lines.
