Its relevance has increased due to the megatrends of globalization and digitalization. Hence great effort is undertaken by organizations in order to find ways to positively and consciously influence innovation capacity. In this thesis organizational innovation culture is considered an important driver of innovation. Thus a construct is created around this phenomenon using relevant subject literature. The aim is to generate a framework for the implementation of an innovative organizational culture. The core of the construct consists of fifteen indicators: ‘shared value of innovation’, ‘internal networking’, ‘failure and risk culture’, ‘flexibility’, ‘customer focus and market orientation’, ‘change management’, creativity’, ‘freedom’, ‘innovation management’, ‘leadership’, ‘open system’, ‘Intrapreneurship’, ‘knowledge management and organizational learning’, ‘trainings’ and ‘remuneration system’. In addition to that, the following aspects are part of the framework: a holistic definition, an overview of recent measurement concepts, the importance of determining the success object and the examination of positive effects of innovation culture. This framework represents the result of the theoretical part of this thesis. In succession it is examined through an empirical analysis based upon the banking industry. In this context interviews with experts from the respective industry and with a group of external consultants are conducted. These are parsed using the method of qualitative content analysis. As a result innovation culture is proved to be an important driver of the innovation capacity of a company. All of the indicators are acknowledged to be relevant. The most important ones are: ‘shared value of innovation’, ‘internal networking’, ‘failure and risk culture’, ‘flexibility’ and ‘customer focus and market orientation’. The exemplarily analyzed banking industry in Austria and Germany has not yet established a profound innovation culture.
