(Bianca) 2015 Video on demand ; Wettbewerbsstrategie ; Preisdifferenzierung Masterarbeit, Fachhochschule St. Pölten, Studiengang Media Management, 2015 Bereits ein Drittel der österreichischen Internet-UserInnen nutzt VoD (=Video on De-mand) (vgl. MindTake Research GmbH 2015). According to the MindTake Research GmbH (2015) a third of all Austrian internet-users use VoD (=Video on Demand). Numerous VoD platforms are trying to attract the attention of the Austrian users. Consequently the platforms are forced to put a lot of effort into finding a strategy, which differentiates the platform from competitors. One possible strategy could be the price discrimination strategy which is likely to be a promising strategy in the Net Economy in which the VoD platforms are operating. Therefore, the present study analyses the competitive differentiation effect of the price discrimination strategy on VoD platforms. For this purpose, the study analyses and compares the three VoD platforms iTunes, Amazon Video and Netflix, which have the following characteristics in common: they offer film- and series-content, are based on a payment-model and are available in Austria. In the first step the platforms are investigated regarding their use of prominent strategies in the Net Economy. Based on this a detailed investigation of the platforms in respect to their applied price discrimination in their revenue models is presented. As a result the level of price dis-crimination practiced by the platforms can be specified. The outcome shows that the platforms are actively using price discrimination in their different revenue models. Regarding the extent of price discrimination, a certain ho-mogeneity and reservation amongst the platforms can be observed. As a possible reason therefore the study identifies different factors which may occur due to influ-ence of different market forces. As an example the high market transparency and comparability of the products, the high concentration on the content markets, the big choice of substitute products and the trend towards a cooperative competitive behav-iour can be mentioned. VoD-providers apply different strategies on their platforms, which are likely to differentiate towards their competitors. Nevertheless in the future the corporate network and partner networks, in which the customers should play a central role, are supposed to be of high importance. http://phaidra.fhstp.ac.at/o:2936 application/pdf 1237253 bytes Preisdifferenzierung auf Video-on-Demand-Plattformen als netzökonomische Strategie zur Wettbewerbsdifferenzierung Text
