By law the Austrian army must offer general information for public scrutany. The main means of communication by the army runs over the country media, for example ORF and newspapers. This information is usually written for the whole population of Austria, it is rarely directed at persons of certain age and of interest groups. This raises the question of how the population views the Austrian military. Do they have the correct image of the army and there tasks? In this paper it will be looked at the specific age group of the 10 to 14 year olds. The main points in this paper are generally known facts about the Austrian military, public relations, communication methods of the Austrian army and young people between the ages 10 to 14. This explorative study is a questionnaire of 251 10 to 14 year olds. The subjects from two schools, a group of evening courses and two recreational centres where asked to answer the questionnaire. Typically the study shows a slightly distorted image of the Austrian army. This can be because of a lack of interest in politics, military and security. Another cause of this can be the unspecific communication of the army to the above mentioned group. http://phaidra.fhstp.ac.at/o:303 application/pdf 1699699 bytes Text PR des Bundesheeres
