o:3410 Product Placement von Fast Moving Consumer Goods in YouTube Videos Welchen Einfluss haben Produktplatzierungen von Kosmetikartikel in YouTube Videos auf die Kaufpräferenz junger Frauen im Alter von 18-25 Jahren? de St. Pölten, Studiengang Media- und Kommunikationsberatung, 2018 This Master Thesis deals with the topic "Product Placement of Fast Moving Consumer Goods in YouTube Videos". The main subject of the study is to figure out the impact of product placements of cosmetic products in YouTube videos on the purchase preferences of young women. Product placement on television has been an established form of communication for many years. For example, scientific publications on product placement were already published in the late 1980s. Changed media consumption habits of the society, where a significant amount of audio-visual video consumption is concentrated on the video platform YouTube, has led to new forms of product placement. Therefore, a variety of different forms of product placements can be found in YouTube videos. One of the most common forms is the placement of cosmetic products in beauty tutorials. Cosmetic products can be classified as Fast Moving Consumer Goods. Marketers face the challenge of having to deal with consumers, that show a low involvement in the purchase decision process for these products. An experimental design was used to answer the research question of this thesis. The field research took place in a Shopping Centre in Vienna in March 2018. Two different YouTube videos were shown to two hundred women aged between 18 and 25. To figure out, if the product placement has an impact on the purchase preferences, the young women had to be separated into two groups. One of the groups got to see a video with a product placement, the other group saw a YouTube video without a placed product. Subsequently, comparisons were made between the two groups to determine the influence of the placed product. The results of the study show, that the product placement of a cosmetic product in a YouTube Video does not have any impact on the purchase preferences of young women.
