Slow motion and live television are inextricably linked today, especially in sports. While just a few decades ago, nobody could foresee the possibility of an instant replay at all, slow motion is nowadays widely known, and seen on television all the time. However, hardly anyone is aware of where it came from and how it is produced today. It is therefore important to establish a connection between the current improvements, experience and progress in technology and the present possibilities. This diploma thesis deals with the origins of slow motion in live television – technically as well as aesthetically and operationally. A bridge will be built from the first instant replay in 1963 to today's implementation of super slow motion in sports productions. While the past playbacks were served directly by Videotape Recorder and often a maximum of one single slow motion shot was played in one production, today’s operators are working with small, handy controllers, which are exclusively intended for the creation of slow motion and offer the possibility to easily play as many slow motions as needed – one by one. How this technical progress has been achieved, how the best-known slow-motion controller from the company EVS has become the one and only market leader and which competing products have been available – are issues that, among others, will be explained in detail in the following chapters. This master thesis is thus relevant for all interest groups who want to deal with the topic of slow motion in live TV für different reasons, particularly focusing on the beginning to the current technical possibilities - "state of the arts". http://phaidra.fhstp.ac.at/o:3597 application/pdf 13834109 bytes Text Die Zeitlupe
