This diploma thesis with the title „Promotion as an important Marketing Aspect for an Arthouse-Cinema in the East of Austria using the example of the Austrian Filmgallery“ deals with the part of marketing which is respon-sible for the acquisition and information of potential customers and the loy-ality of present customers. These activities create a link between the culture and the marketing, which shows that marketing and especially promotion are very essential in the cul-tural sector. The base of this paper is on the one hand the historical background and the current situation of an Arthouse-Cinemas in the East of Austria and on the other hand the theoretical basic knowledge of marketing and promotion and the different promotion aims and tools. With this theoretical knowledge, interviews with marketing experts of dif-ferent Arthouse-Cinemas will be carried out. Also the marketing tools and means of advertising of these cinemas will be analysed to achieve an opti-mal marketing and promotion system for an Arthouse-Cinema. These results will be transferred to the Austrian Filmgallery with its Arthouse-Cinema, called Kino im Kesselhaus, to improve its present promotion activities by giving proposals. The Kino im Kesselhaus, which is situated in the heart of Lower-Austria, will be compared with Arthouse-Cinemas of Vienna. Burgenland has to be mentioned too because of its geographical location, but it will not be taken into consideration in this paper, because there is no Arthouse-Cinema.
