Expected demographical development and consequences for adequate old-age assistance in city districts Reflections on old-age assistance illustrated by the district Mitterau in Krems from the social worker`s point of view Mitterau is a district of Krems, populated with many people. After the Second World War the city council of Krems built new apartments. The people moving into them, are old now. Because of the expected demographical development new challenge for the politicians and the social workers will arise. The results of the thesis are based on 34 qualitative interviews with old people, relatives and experts in social work, social medicine, politics, church and house building. The paper points out that the older people of the district Mitterau like to stay where they are and that they would like to live in their apartment or in another apartment in the district as long as possible. The infrastructure of the district of Mitterau meets the requirements of the older people. The psycho-social care and the social medical care is easily available, but the older people don´t know about these resources. The paper emphasizes the problems of the older people, the lack of modern facilities (no elevators, no single-storey heating, small bathrooms) and the problems concerning loneliness and isolation of the people in need of care and the senile people. Finally, the paper includes a list of measures for the city council to improve the quality of life for older people in the district of Mitterau: Measures for a better information for older people, for a better basic supply, for the improvement of houses suitable for the handicapped and the integration of people who need a lot of care. http://phaidra.fhstp.ac.at/o:585 application/pdf 3318236 bytes Zukünftige demographische Entwicklung und die daraus resultierende Konsequenz für eine bedürfnisgerechte, stadtteilorientierte Altenarbeit Text
