Lobbying Development and practise of a method in open youth work The thesis deals with the development of the method “lobbying” in Viennese open youth work. The author presents as the core message that lobbying today already is a practiced method of youth work. Furthermore it shows that “Sozialraumorientierung”, in this case most closely described as community action, provides a base for the development of lobbying. The specific parameters of socio-political lobbying (as it varies from profit sector lobbying) are drawn. With the means of a questioning survey within the group of leading youth workers in Vienna essential points and experience concerning lobbying where collected: • Lobbying is viewed as tool to influence social change in favor of the clients. • It is an applied method in order to act as interest/advocacy group for young people. • Youth work and lobbying go together. With respect to a better understanding on one hand and getting to know best practise models of youth work on the other hand, two lobbying projects of the Association of Viennese youth centers are unfold showing the complexity and diversity of the process.
