During the past few years the so-called corporate social responsibility (CSR) has become a widely discussed issue among managers, ecologists, philosophers and communication experts. This thesis describes the mentioned phenomenon, more specifically the corporate social responsibility taken by a special company in the austrian banking sector, the Bank Austria Creditanstalt AG (BA-CA). The purpose of the study was to explore the general meaning of CSR for BA-CA and to identify the current CSR-activities taken by BA-CA. Furthermore the researcher’s constructive approach consisted in making a useful contribution by elaborating suggestions for BA-CA how to optimize its CSR-concept – if necessary. In order to evaluate whether the BA-CA’s CSR-strategy can be improved and in order to develop valuable recommendations for BA-CA, its current CSR-activities had been compared to common CSR-tools and bestpractice examples. Infact an integrated and sustainable CSRstrategy is considered an appropriate tool for creating a perfect win-win-situation for both partners, the company as well as the involved stakeholder. Finally, many experts agree in maintaining that an integrated CSR-strategy will lead to an overall long-term success of the company, not only in terms of communication and image results but also – and that is the crucial idea – in terms of the financial result.
