Crisis communication makes high demands on a company´s communication activities. Therefore companies should attribute high importance to this communication discipline. Despite its importance the present literature does not offer a model, which describes the detailed proceedings of crisis communication. The target of this thesis is the development of a crisis communication model, which describes strategical and tactical proceedings related to the particular phases of a crisis. Furthermore the thesis investigates if the crisis communication concept of the real estate company “Wohnfreunde Immobilien Bau- und Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH“ meets the recommendations of this model. The theoretical part firstly discusses the basics of a corporate crisis and focuses on the different parts of crisis communication secondly. Based on this findings the ”Four phases house of crisis communication” is being developed. This model describes four phases of crisis communication, which extend from a company´s normal condition to its failure. While the main focus is on crisis prevention at the beginning, increasing crisis intensity shifts the focus to crisis containment. The model shows that increasing intensity leads to a rise of the strategical and tactical recommendations as well as to an increasing necessity of information brokering. The analysis of the case study based on this model shows, that the real estate company considered the elements of the “Four phases house of crisis communication” in a large part by developing their concept and met the recommendations of this model.
